As the urgency to combat climate change and achieve net-zero goals escalates worldwide, the need for collaboration between governments and businesses becomes increasingly critical. It is this unity that Dr. Eugene Seah, Global Board Member and Chief Operating Officer at Meinhardt Singapore, believes is vital in addressing climate change and driving momentum towards net-zero aims.
Dr Seah, one of this year's distinguished guest speakers at Schneider Electric's Innovation Day Singapore 2023, emphasises the significance of companies rallying behind common objectives. In his comments which have been published in an article in The Straits Times, Dr Seah made this point:
“The role of governments in setting targets and providing support is critical, but even more crucial is the unity of businesses and their ability to come together to address climate change and net-zero aims. When companies rally behind common objectives, this fosters a cohesive ecosystem where necessary business and supply chain processes naturally align.”

Dr Seah also opined: "Currently, platforms, sensors, insights, data analytics, and Artificial Intelligence, to name a few, provide vital support and processes to enhance the efficiency of building design and operations. A well-designed building translates into better operational efficacy and a lower carbon footprint."
“We should also consider adopting other technologies such as design methodologies for deconstruction and reversible building designs that can significantly reduce embodied carbon, as well as methods for refurbishing and reusing materials, and nature-based designs and biomimicry to guide our design and operations. By combining these approaches, achieving net-zero goals becomes a sustainable and financially viable process,” he added.
